Hossein Bashiriyeh, born in 1953 in Hamedan, is a political sociologist and political science researcher. He is one of the most important political science professors in contemporary Iran and has taught at the University of Tehran and Syracuse University in the United States.

He earned his bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Tehran and then continued his studies in England, receiving a master's degree in political behavior from the University of Essex and a PhD in political theory from the University of Liverpool.
Bashiriyeh taught political science at the University of Tehran for over two decades, and his educational and research works played a significant role in the formation and expansion of political sociology in Iran. After leaving the University of Tehran, he also taught at Syracuse University in the United States.
Bashiriyeh's main focus is on political sociology, theories of revolution, political development, democracy, the state, civil society, Western political thought, obstacles to political development in Iran, and the political sociology of contemporary Iran. His works have both an educational dimension and have been influential in analyzing power structures, social forces, and the possibility of political transition in Iran.
