Life and Thought
Mehdi Motaharnia (born ۱۳۴۴ SH) is an Iranian researcher and analyst in political science and futures studies. He heads the Simorgh Think Tank and has taught at Islamic Azad University.
Mehdi Motaharnia, born on ۲۳ Bahman ۱۳۴۴ in Kashan, is an Iranian researcher and analyst working in political science, futures studies, international relations, media, and political sociology. He heads the Simorgh Think Tank and has taught at Islamic Azad University as well as other academic and research institutions at various times.
Motaharnia began his university education in political science and subsequently pursued teaching and research in futures studies. He defended his doctoral dissertation in futures studies, titled “Future Media and Their Role in New Social Movements,” at Imam Khomeini International University in Qazvin.
His principal areas of work include the analysis of power, domestic and foreign policy, futures studies, development, security, mass media, and transformations in regional and global order. In his writings and lectures, he has employed concepts such as “Barikh-shenasi,” the “Glass Room,” the “Crystal Ball,” the “Crystal or Fluid Sphere,” and the “Greater Heartland,” seeking to develop frameworks for analyzing the future of Iranian politics and society.
