About this video
The concept of 'Iranshahr' has become one of the most controversial concepts in historiography, political thought, and Iranian studies in recent years. In this conversation, Mahmoud Farjami talks with Touraj Daryaee about the historical meaning of Iranshahr and the misunderstandings that have formed around it.
The focus of the discussion is what Iranshahr meant in its historical context and to what extent it can be linked to contemporary political projects. The question is also examined whether Iranshahri thought, especially in readings such as that of Seyyed Javad Tabatabai, necessarily leads to authoritarian and despotic governments or not.
The importance of this conversation lies in clarifying the boundary between the historical concept, theoretical interpretation, and political application of Iranshahr. This video is suitable for those interested in the history of Iran, political thought, Iranian studies, and the critique of contemporary identity concepts.
