About this video
In one of the sessions of the 'Discourse and Thought' lecture series organized by the Fars branch of the Ettehad-e Mellat Party in Shiraz, Hossein Hooshmand introduced and critically reviewed the book A Brief History of Justice, authored by David Johnston and translated by Mostafa Tajzadeh. Hooshmand is a researcher in political philosophy and has conducted research in the field of comparative moral philosophy and the ethical foundations of global politics from the perspective of John Rawls.
In this talk, Hooshmand, while providing a brief introduction to the book, offers a critical analysis of it and raises fundamental questions about the possibility of justice in the contemporary world. Pointing to structural inequalities, institutionalized corruption, and widespread injustices, he asks the audience whether one can still hope for the possibility of realizing a just society or must surrender to bitter realities. Any theory of justice must be able to provide a reasonable answer to these questions.
This lecture is an opportunity for those interested in political philosophy, the theory of justice, and contemporary thought to become acquainted, through a critical lens, with one of the important works in the history of the idea of justice and to better understand its relevance to the challenges of today's world and Iranian society.
