Philosophy is neither science nor religion, but free awareness and thought with a boundless horizon; without it, humanity freezes. Dr. Ebrahimi Dinani, drawing the boundaries of philosophy, identifies Wahhabism as an example of the absence of philosophical thinking.

Philosophy has no error or correctness. Science has correctness and error. In religion there is truth and falsehood, but philosophy does not say that something is true or false, or right or wrong. Philosophy sets something aside and chooses something else. Setting aside does not mean invalidation, and choosing does not mean that thing is correct. Philosophy is absolute freedom. Thus, this fundamental difference between science and philosophy, and between philosophy and religion on the other hand, emerges here. Philosophy is neither religion nor science. The truth of philosophy is awareness, and awareness is always contemporary. Philosophy, which is free thought, is a gaze toward a horizon, and that horizon is boundless. We know that just as there are many people in Iran who oppose philosophy, such people also exist in Turkey, but they do not know that if philosophy is taken away from human beings, the human being is nothing more than a frozen entity. An example of this matter, which we and you are also afflicted with today, is Wahhabism, which branches from the thoughts of Ibn Taymiyyah.
This lecture was delivered on 27 September 2015, with the cooperation of the Iranian Institute of Philosophy and the Yunus Emre Institute in Tehran, at the Iranian Institute of Philosophy.
