Sayyid Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr (1935–1980) was an Iraqi Shia jurist, usuli scholar and thinker, and one of the authorities of Najaf. In *Falsafatuna* ("Our Philosophy") and *Iqtisaduna* ("Our Economy") he criticised Marxism and capitalism and set out a model of Islamic economics. In *al-Usus al-Mantiqiyya lil-Istiqra'* ("The Logical Foundations of Induction") he developed a theory of induction and the formation of knowledge. He was executed by the Iraqi Ba'ath regime in April 1980.
