Rachel Carson (1907–1964) was an American marine biologist, writer, and environmentalist. Her landmark book Silent Spring (1962) exposed the dangers of chemical pesticides, especially DDT, and is widely credited with launching the modern environmental movement and shaping global environmental policy.
