Life and Thought
Rasoul Jafarian is a researcher, historian, and professor in the Department of History at the University of Tehran. Through editing ancient texts and authoring numerous works on the history of Shi'ism, the Safavid era, and the history of the Hajj, he has played a significant role in the development of contemporary historical research in Iran.
Rasoul Jafarian (born 1961 in Khorasgan, Isfahan) is a historian, researcher, and distinguished professor in the Department of History at the University of Tehran. In addition to his seminary studies in Qom, he has conducted extensive research in the history of Islam and Iran, and his career includes managing important institutions such as the Library of the Islamic Consultative Assembly and the Central Library of the University of Tehran.
The main areas of Jafarian's research are the history of Shi'ism, the intellectual and political developments of the Safavid era, the history of the Hajj, and the religio-political currents of contemporary Iran. Among his important and well-known works are "History of Shi'ism in Iran," "The Safavids in the Realm of Religion, Culture, and Politics," and "Religio-Political Currents and Organizations in Iran."
His thought and research approach are based on meticulous documentary research, the revival and editing of ancient manuscripts, and the critical analysis of intellectual and religious developments. He has consistently emphasized the importance of a scientific perspective and moving beyond simplistic popular notions when engaging with religious and political history.
