Webinar by Abouali Golzari: “Circular Economy in Waste Management”

The webinar “Circular Economy in Waste Management” was held by the “Scientific Association of Environmental Enthusiasts of Sharif University of Technology” and presented by Dr. Abouali Golzari on November 26, 2020, examining the economic dimensions of waste management in industry (especially from the perspective of circular economy).

One of the newest branches of economics is the circular economy, which originates from environmental economics and is an economic system whose goal is to minimize waste and maximize the use of resources. The circular economy stands in contrast to the concept of a linear economy, in which the production model is “take raw materials, make, and dispose.” In this model, primary resources are ultimately either consumed or discarded, causing serious harm to the environment.

The circular economy is a suitable and sustainable alternative to the linear economy, and some countries and many manufacturing and commercial-trade enterprises in developed nations have begun extensive studies and activities in this field. Worldwide, the circular economy is seen as a way to overcome current production and consumption models based on continuous economic growth and increasing the capacity of productive resources, simultaneously focusing on increasing efficiency, productive resources, and environmental preservation by promoting the adoption of closed-loop production patterns within a circular economic system.
