Mohammad Amin Ghaneirad

Seyyed Mohammad-Amin Ghaneirad was born in 1955 in Shahr-e Rey and passed away on June 14, 2018, in Tehran. He pursued his university education in sociology at the University of Tehran, continuing in the same field up to the doctoral level. Ghaneirad was a faculty member and professor of sociology at the National Research Institute for Science Policy for many years and served a term as president of the Iranian Sociological Association.

His main research areas were the sociology of science, the sociology of the university, scientific culture, scientific development, and the relationship between knowledge and Iranian society. He sought to understand science not merely as a collection of theories and formal institutions, but as a social and cultural action; an action dependent on trust, dialogue, scientific institutions, university autonomy, and the quality of relationships among scientific actors.

Among his works and research, one can mention "The Sociology of the Rise and Decline of Science in Iran," "The Sociology of Scientific Actors in Iran," and studies on academic culture, science policy, higher education, and the issues of the institution of science in Iran. His works are important for understanding the question of why science grows in a society or loses its dynamism.
