Hadi Khaniki

Hadi Khaniki, born in 1951 in the village of Khanik in Gonabad, is a full professor of communication sciences at Allameh Tabataba'i University, a journalist, and a researcher in the fields of media, development, civil society, and dialogue. His university education began with sociology and then continued at the master's and doctoral levels in communication sciences at Allameh Tabataba'i University; his doctoral dissertation was on the relationship between the "Dialogue of Civilizations" and international communication. In politics, he also has a history of party activity and media consultancy, but his primary place in Iran's intellectual sphere is better known for his studies on media, the press, communication development, trust, and dialogue.

Khaniki is among the figures who do not see communication merely as a media technique, but rather consider it a part of cultural and social development. Several themes recur in his works: the relationship between the press and civil society, the underdevelopment of media in Iran, dialogue as a social solution, social capital, social hope, and the role of communication in society's passage through crisis. In the introduction to the book "The Idea of Progress and New Developments in Iranian Society," it is also emphasized that the work revisits Majid Tehranian's studies in the fields of development, culture, and communication, and then pursues the issue of development and communication in contemporary Iran.
