The necessity of #StayingHome and #NotTraveling these days to break the chain of coronavirus transmission does not prevent us from visiting some of the world’s most spectacular attractions and finest museums. If you have a virtual reality (VR) headset, the experience of a virtual, three-dimensional viewing of these attractions and museums is sometimes not far removed from an in-person visit. But even if, like me, you don’t have a VR headset, you can still go on virtual tours through Google’s high-quality 360-degree tours of these sites and museums without spending a single rial, enjoying and benefiting from wandering through them and viewing the masterpieces of world art history. The first time I became acquainted with 3D virtual tourism on Google Maps (Google Street View) through my Chilean housemate’s VR headset, I was truly excited, and for several weeks I spent a few hours a day touring the earth, from the peak of Everest and the alleys of Venice and Yosemite Falls to Masjid al-Haram and Jerusalem. It is as if you are teleporting. Without cost. Anytime, you can fly and walk anywhere on earth you wish, and with a quality close to an in-person visit (especially at the world’s more famous attractions, which are viewable in 3D with better visual quality on Google), you go wherever you want.
? Museum-Hopping:
Google Arts & Culture has made virtual visits to 500 museums around the world possible:
https://artsandculture.google.com/partner?hl=en
Among these 500 museums, for example, you can start with these ten (I personally had not seen the last 3 museums in person and greatly enjoyed viewing them during my online tourism these past few days):
?The British Museum in London (British Museum):
https://britishmuseum.withgoogle.com/
? The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam:
? The MoMA in New York:
? The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam:
? The Uffizi Gallery in Florence:
? The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York:
? The National Gallery in London:
? The Belvedere Museum in Vienna:
? The Leopold Museum in Vienna:
? The Munch Museum in Oslo:
? Nature tourism:
For example, you can start with these few places:
? Mount Everest - Nepal:
? The Grand Canyon - USA:
? Kahala Beach - Hawaii:
? The Amazon Rainforest:
? Viewing monuments:
For example:
? University of Oxford - Britain:
? The Taj Mahal - India:
? The Palace of Versailles - France:
? The Colosseum - Rome:
? The White House - USA:
? Stonehenge - Wiltshire, Britain:
⭕ This site is also a good guide for free virtual tourism to the most spectacular places on Earth via Google:
http://www.googlesightseeing.com/
⭕ On the Google Street View site itself, you can also see a long list of streets, buildings, and attractions in dozens of countries around the world, viewable online for free with near-realistic quality and 360-degree rotation capability:
https://www.google.com/streetview/
Reading substantial, life-changing, and useful first-rate books is one of the best options for spending the days of staying home to prevent the spread of coronavirus with benefit and pleasure. If you haven't yet read any of these twenty highly readable books, I suggest you include them among your options during this period. All of these books are non-specialist and beneficial for general readers. You can purchase the paperback versions of these books through one of the online book-ordering sites I have listed at the end of this text and have them delivered to your door. The electronic and audio versions of some of them are also available for purchase online.

Staying home to prevent the spread of coronavirus is a brilliant opportunity for online education and learning from the world's best instructors in any field we have desired to learn but lacked the chance. Fortunately, in recent years, top-tier free educational courses and treasure troves in any field we might be interested in have become accessible to all of us via the internet (from academic courses in all university disciplines to arts and vocational and life skills). For example, if you get a chance, take a short browse through these few sites. In almost any field you are interested in, the best classes by the world's finest instructors and the highest quality educational materials (including video and audio files) are at your disposal. Personally, for several years now, I have followed the videos of dozens of courses from these sites while exercising and during commutes, and I can say from experience that they have been more useful to me than any in-person class I attended at the University of Tehran, and at times they were no less beneficial than the in-person classes I took at the universities of Oxford, Princeton, and Harvard. Sometimes I think that when these top-tier free classes are available to us, there is often no longer a need to enroll in a university, incur expenses, or migrate for it, and every few months one can learn the equivalent of an expensive master's degree in any field one likes. They are free. Without cost and in the comfort of your home pajamas, realize that they are among the most valuable treasures of knowledge and skill training, and accessible to all:

Some of the highest-quality short animations (3 to 12 minutes) are also appealing and delightful for adult audiences. Like short poems, rubaiyats, and haikus, despite their brevity and sometimes apparent simplicity, they possess a special depth, richness, and beauty. Most are also wordless and charming, and despite their shortness, a great deal of effort, cost, time, creativity, and passion has been invested in them. In these days of staying home to break the chain of coronavirus transmission, parents can, whenever they have a few minutes and want to refresh their minds, enjoy watching these select few-minute animations alongside their children. Perhaps you, like me, will sometimes even enjoy watching them repeatedly:

Listening to engaging and rich podcasts is a good option during these days when we are staying home to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, and while cooking, exercising, spring cleaning, or organizing our library, photos, and computer files. Fortunately, especially in the last two years, high-quality and listenable Persian podcasts with good scripts and production have also grown significantly. Among Persian and English podcasts, I particularly enjoy listening to these few and suggest to like-minded friends that if they haven't heard any of them and like them, they should also listen to their previous episodes when they have the chance these days. I find almost all episodes of all these podcasts worth listening to:
Radio Marz Podcast:
By Marzieh Rasouli. Simple yet profound. Based on interviews and recounting the experiences and perspectives of others on boundary-making topics that create distance between us, and despite the simplicity and fluency of Marzieh Rasouli's own expression and that of her interviewees, they possess rare richness and insight.
Sekke Podcast:
Engaging and rich economic discussions by Mehdi Naji with a group of Iran's best economic experts
In this compelling podcast, Meysam Mohammad narrates the story of important events in contemporary history with a sweet narrative and a text that is clearly well-researched and crafted, relying on primary and credible historical sources.
This podcast selects excellent reports from the most credible English-language sources (fascinating reports written with months of dedication by the best reporters of reputable media), translates them well into Persian, and Ali Bandari has made significant progress in choosing the right tone and delivery.
ChannelBPlus Podcast:
which presents engaging summaries of readable and bestselling English-language books using the excellent book summary site Blinkist, with good translation, delivery, and tone by Ali Bandari.
EpitomeBooks Podcast:
which offers summaries of readable books in Persian.
An engaging and philosophical podcast about popular culture and works of art (including film and series, music, literature, and visual arts).
A music analysis podcast that each time focuses on a famous Iranian traditional or popular song/ballad/piece, and although it sometimes has minor errors in analysis and description, it is overall a compelling podcast.
Ferdowsi-reading with Amir Khadem.

Compelling podcasts about cases in Iran's contemporary history by Mahmoud Azimaei, who puts a great deal of research and effort into each episode.

With gyms closed and physical activity significantly reduced, daily home exercise is essential for maintaining vitality and health during the days of staying home to break the chain of coronavirus transmission. As an ordinary audience member and citizen interested in daily exercise, I have found these home exercise suggestions more useful, and they were also very effective during long periods of solitary confinement. Perhaps they will be of use to you as well:
Seven Minutes Workout:
Seven minutes of simple daily movements that require no equipment, using only your own body weight, engaging most muscles and also providing an aerobic workout. Daily persistence with this relatively intense and demanding 7 minutes will clearly increase your fitness.
Open this site, press the Start button, and simultaneously perform the movements it instructs for 7 minutes:
It also has a mobile app:

This letter, which I wrote in 2012 to the dear Mohammad Hossein Naeimipour and the beloved Emad Bahavar in prison, contains 500 examples of small pleasures for maintaining emotional freshness in prison and solitary confinement conditions. In the conditions of home quarantine to break the chain of coronavirus transmission, such small, simple, and free pleasures also become more accessible:
The necessity of increasing "social distance" to break the chain of coronavirus transmission only applies to in-person communications, and online group socializing and visits can replace face-to-face interactions these days, adding warmth to our collective life without threatening the health and lives of others. In family and friends' Telegram groups, we can more easily and simply arrange online meetings, socializing, and virtual group Nowruz visits through these free tools:
Jitsi
The Jitsi site is a very simple tool for online group meetings. You go to the site, press the Go button, and a page opens. You send the link to that page via Telegram, text message, or email to the group you want to see, and each person opens it in a computer browser (like Google Chrome or Firefox) to enter the online meeting. There is no need to create or add an ID for each participant. Simply when they open the link, they must allow the browser to use the computer's microphone and camera. If you don't have a computer, you can also install its app via the link on the above site. Besides ease of use, another advantage of Jitsi is its high security and the impossibility of eavesdropping. I personally tried group socializing with friends on Jitsi in the past week (each time between 13 and 20 people) and we were all satisfied.
Google Hangout
https://hangouts.google.com/webchat/start
Google Hangouts has good speed and features for online Nowruz visits and holding school and university classes, and can host up to 250 people in a group online meeting, and if used for broadcasting a lecture or live program, it can have an audience of up to 100,000 people. It also records online socializing, lectures, or programs if you wish, and you can save them. In addition to being suitable for online Nowruz visits and gatherings of families and friends, cultural institutions that have canceled their lectures and conferences due to the coronavirus can easily hold their programs live and online through Google Hangouts, even with a larger online audience than in-person attendees. School teachers and university professors can also hold their classes online through this during this period. It is also suitable for remote work meetings during this time. The main problem with Google Hangouts was that it was not free, but fortunately, due to the coronavirus, Google has made it free for the next 5 months.
? Skype
Everyone knows the Skype application, and its speed is not bad. Its only problem is that, unlike Jitsi, all participants must create an ID, and you have to add the participants' IDs one by one.
? Instagram Video Chat
https://help.instagram.com/136585180482293
You can also have group video calls on Instagram, and it is a convenient and high-speed option for socializing in groups that are not large and whose members are on Instagram. If you haven't tried it, an explanation is provided at the link above ?️.
? Zoom
Among the free options, "Zoom" has good features and easy accessibility from any type of phone or computer for video conferencing (especially meetings).
***
Try online Nowruz visits and family and friendly socializing via video conference through one of these free and easy tools. You can also take photos/screenshots of your online socializing and share them so that others are encouraged to try it, and the pleasure of socializing and our emotional support for each other does not diminish during these days of staying home. Sometimes it is even more convenient than in-person socializing. It requires neither the time, trouble, and fuel consumption of commuting and city travel, nor the need to get ready. In these months of reduced in-person contact, it has also become essential for maintaining morale and the warmth of our close relationships.
Based on credible empirical scientific studies and the accumulated human experience in numerous spiritual and secular traditions, regular daily meditation (from a few minutes to several hours) is for strengthening mind-control skills and freeing the mind from habits that increase contentment and peace. But maintaining a meditation practice during these days of staying home to break the chain of coronavirus transmission is even more essential than under normal conditions, and it helps reduce stress, strengthen the body's immune system, and increase mental health and vitality at home. These days are a good opportunity, if we are skilled and experienced in various types of meditation, to dedicate more time to it, and if we have not had the chance until now to learn, practice, and engage in daily discipline in one or more types of meditation, to learn and make it a part of our daily lives.
A friend asked last week, in the three experiences of long-term solitary confinement you had, what kept your spirits up that might be useful during these days of quarantine? I said, more than anything: meditation and vigorous exercise. With practice, one can start with 5 minutes of daily meditation and gradually, by strengthening the muscles of mind control and the skill of witnessing and inner silence, reach a sustained one to several hours of daily meditation and see its effect on the freshness and lightness of mind and the improvement of life. Below I provide a few links about several types of meditation, in case anyone is interested in trying them:
? About 5 Types of Meditation:
From minute 29 to 41 of this lecture, I have divided types of meditation into 5 categories based on personal experience and briefly explained them:
In this audio file, Dr. Arash Naraghi briefly explains two types of meditation: "closed" (focused) and "open":
It is actually a type of simple, mind-emptying meditation and, in my opinion, a good start for practicing meditation. Introductory explanations about it are given in these two short videos:

To practice philosophical meditation, use this short two-page guide:
? A Simple Written Guide to Meditation:
This New York Times page is a good, simple, and effective introduction to the first step of practicing meditation and, along with initial explanations, includes several exercises and audio guides for simple meditations of 1 to 15 minutes:

? Guided Audio Meditations:
In the early stages, it is helpful to have an audio guide lead your meditation. After a while, there is no longer a need for an audio guide. These few samples of guided meditation can suffice:
