Farhad Shafti is a Qur’anic scholar and researcher in Islamic studies who received his PhD from the University of Edinburgh and also has seminary education up to the early intermediate level. His areas of activity include understanding and interpreting the Qur’an, religious pluralism, spirituality, and contemporary Islamic studies.
Farhad Shafti is a Qur’anic scholar and researcher in Islamic studies. He received his PhD in Islamic studies from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and also has seminary education up to the early intermediate level. He works in the fields of understanding and interpreting the Qur’an, religious pluralism, spirituality, and contemporary Islamic studies.
His main focus is on Qur’anic studies, the methodology of understanding the Qur’an, the link between intra-religious and extra-religious understanding which he calls “religious threshold-sitting,” the re-reading of Islamic concepts, and dialogue between the religious tradition and the questions and needs of the contemporary human being. His writings and talks are a blend of spiritual reflections and analytical, reformist approaches. He also holds a PhD in operational research from the University of Strathclyde.
