Amir Maziar

Amir Maziar, born March 1978 in Mashhad, is a researcher in the philosophy of art, aesthetics, and the philosophy of Islamic art. He completed his BA and MA in Western philosophy at the University of Tehran and later received his PhD in the philosophy of art from Allameh Tabataba'i University. His master's thesis addressed the difficulties of Book Beta of Aristotle's Metaphysics, and his doctoral dissertation was devoted to the relationship between Islamic art and Islamic thought.

Maziar is a faculty member in the Philosophy of Art Department at the University of Art, Tehran, and has taught philosophy, aesthetics, and theoretical issues in art at various universities and educational centers, including the University of Tehran, Allameh Tabataba'i University, Qazvin International University, and Soore Higher Education Institute. In academic sources and article databases, he is introduced as an assistant professor at the University of Art, Tehran and a researcher in the field of philosophy of art, with dozens of articles registered in the areas of Western philosophy, Islamic art, aesthetics, and art historiography.

Maziar's primary field is the philosophy of art; however, he pursues this field both through Western philosophy, particularly Heidegger, Hegel, and phenomenology, and through Islamic art and its relationship with the Islamic intellectual tradition. In his works, he addresses questions such as the nature of art, the relationship between art and truth, the status of imagination, the historicity of art, the possibility of a philosophy of Islamic art, and the relationship between modern aesthetics and non-Western traditions.

Amir Maziar's intellectual work can be categorized into several axes: Western philosophy of art, aesthetics, philosophy of Islamic art, phenomenology of imagination, Heidegger's philosophy, Hegel's philosophy, art historiography, and the relationship of art with religion and culture. He is among the few Persian-language researchers active both in translating foundational works of aesthetics and in authoring works on Islamic art and contemporary philosophy of art.
