Mohsen Renani

Mohsen Renani, born in 1966 in Rahnan, Isfahan, is an economist and a faculty member of the Economics Department at the University of Isfahan. He completed his university education in economics at the University of Tehran, receiving his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in economics in 1987, 1989, and 1996, respectively.

Renani is best known for his institutional economics approach, development analysis, social capital, and the political economy of Iran. Alongside his academic work, over the years he has published notes and analyses on development, governance, social ethics, public policy, and social transformations in Iran. His presence in the public sphere has been greater than that of many academic economists, which has led his writings on economics, society, and politics to gain wider resonance.

Renani's main focus is on institutional economics, economic development, social capital, the relationship between ethics and economics, the political economy of Iran, and the institutional consequences of policymaking. In some of his works, he has sought to demonstrate that development cannot be explained solely by economic indicators and also depends on the quality of institutions, social trust, public ethics, and the possibility of dialogue.
