Gholamhossein Ebrahimi Dinani, philosopher and retired professor at the University of Tehran, is one of the most prominent contemporary commentators on Islamic philosophy. His research focuses on Peripatetic philosophy, Illuminationism, Transcendent Theosophy, and the revival of Suhrawardi's ideas.
Gholamhossein Ebrahimi Dinani, born December 26, 1934, in Dinan, Isfahan, is a philosopher, author, and retired professor of philosophy at the University of Tehran. He completed his seminary studies in Isfahan and Qom and was a student of Allameh Tabatabai and Seyyed Ruhollah Khomeini. He then studied philosophy at the University of Tehran, earning his doctorate in philosophy in 1973. Dinani has taught for many years at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, the University of Tehran, Tarbiat Modares University, Shahid Motahari University, the University of Islamic Denominations, and Islamic Azad University, and is a permanent member of the Academy of Sciences of Iran.
Dinani is one of the most prominent commentators and interpreters of Islamic philosophy in contemporary Iran. His main focus is on Peripatetic philosophy, Illuminationist philosophy, Transcendent Theosophy, Avicenna, Suhrawardi, Mulla Sadra, Averroes, the question of reason, language, time, existence, knowledge, and the relationship between philosophy and mysticism. His particular renown is largely due to the revival of discussions concerning Suhrawardi and Illuminationist philosophy. The television program Marefat (Knowledge) also played a significant role in introducing him to a general audience of philosophy.
